Mid Spring Seed Sprouting Table

May Projects 009May Projects 008

We got a late start this year with our spring seed sprouting.  It was a cooler and wetter winter and early spring.  We have started to transplant some of our beef steak tomatoes.  All of our seeds are organic or heirloom seeds planted in OMRI labeled soil.  We have corn, zucchini, cantaloupe, yellow squash, pinto beans, sunflowers, hidatsa shield beans, green beans, beets, white and red onions, an avocado, cucumber, sugar pumpkins, a rogue red leaf lettuce, and butternut squash.  We will be busy transplanting the sprouts this weekend.  The weather is ideal.  Nothing beats home grown food.

Logic and Vaccines

Logic is, in a limited sense, a science of the mind.  To the extent an individual is incapable of logical analysis and conclusion, he is to the same extent mindless, that is, he does not use the powers of his mind.” (Teaching the Trivium, Bluedorn)

Schools don’t teach much logic today.  Presently,  people have difficulty “connecting the dots” with knowledge and information.  Have we become “mindless” when it comes to medicating ourselves?  (This blog is meant for educational purposes only and is not meant to be medical advice in any way.)  Recently,  I was looking at the ingredients to the rubella vaccine.  The stuff being directly put into our bodies (and tiny children’s bodies) was appalling:  lung fibroblasts from aborted babies, sorbitol (not recommended for consumption), sodium chloride, fetal bovine serum (collected at the slaughterhouse from baby cows) and other buffer and media ingredients.  I would never eat the stuff in the vaccine, but we inject this stuff straight into our veins. Yuck! It seems like mad science to me.  According to VAERS there are 10 million plus vaccines given to children younger than 12 months old per year.  The vaccine industry makes 24 billion dollars per year.  Recently, I have seen more label readers than ever at Trader Joe’s, Costco, and even the 99 cent store. Why are we not reading the labels on drugs going into our bodies and the bodies of our tiny children?  In 2013, the average American child received 36 vaccines by age 6. In Canada it was 28, the UK 20, France 17, and Iceland 11. American kids are the most vaccinated in the world.  In the past there have been medical mistakes.  Our first president, George Washington, had bloodletting performed on him four times while fighting some sort of respiratory illness.  He died.  In the past cigarettes, DDT, leaded gasoline, and mercury fillings were deemed safe.  Now we have learned otherwise.  Recently, a friend introduced me to homeopathic prophylaxis (a medical science that has been around 300 years) as a way to help prevent childhood illness.  This is something I am seriously learning about as a healthy alternative.

“There is a Food Forest in the Kitchen!”

Our winter garden continues to produce.  This was our morning harvest.  The kitchen was alive with garden goodies.  The smell was amazing!  We harvested lots of celery that is so fresh that our eyes water when cutting into it, red lettuce, romaine lettuce, cilantro, chives, peas, Swiss chard, kale, parsley, and later an amazing red beet.  As we harvest we are transitioning into our spring/summer garden.  Sprouts are on their way on our sprouting table and young plants are being transplanted where the winter produce was.4-16 017

The Beauty of God and His Law

Where there is no prophetic vision the people cast off restraint, but blessed is he who keeps the law.
Proverbs 29:18

Psalm 1 says that a man is blessed who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, but he walks in the Torah of Jehovah. There are two ways of life. This includes do’s and don’ts,  but is a way of life. One man has a way of life, the other has chosen the wicked path.

God is immutable.  His standard does not change and has not changed.  He is absolute perfection and eternal.  His law is eternal.

Most modern Christians lack context. They have a shallow notion of what Moses is trying to say.

Hatred for God’s law begins in the garden when Eve is standing at the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. She had already walked and was looking at the tree when the serpent showed up.  Satan, the greatest antinomian or hater of God’s law was waiting to strike.   Adam went along with her hatred of God’s law and reached for authority that wasn’t given to him. He usurped his God given position and began creating his own laws.

Humanism and pride have clouded our view of the goodness of God’s law. People bring their own presuppositions to the Bible and erroneously misinterpret the law.

“The Torah of the Old Testament is much richer than a “code”.  In Hebrew it means “to teach or to point the way”. (Exodus 24:12)  Both the words “instruction and law” have the same root.  Isaiah 2:2-3 “he will teach us His ways”… the teachings of God will go out to all nations.  Torah (law) gives instruction that guides the way.  In Deuteronomy 28:58 “torah”means to do all the words written in this book. All words are in instructions that point the way.  “All the words that God has testified” are good for life. (Joshua 8:31, Deuteronomy 29:29, Deuteronomy 32:46)  The Torah is all his testimony that leads people to salvation.  They are instructions that pertain to all of life and points to salvation. (Psalm 19:7)   Contrary to popular opinion, the law does not beat them down; it points people to God.  (Deuteronomy 31:12, Deuteronomy 33:9-10, Psalm78:10)  Psalm 37:31 promises that “none of his steps shall slide”.  So, Torah is the way you walk or live. Torah is divine instruction that guides his people for their walk in the path of life. (Deuteronomy 32:46 “it is your life”)  Our love for God is a covenantal arrangement and he wants us to “live in them”.  (Leviticus 18:5)”  Dr. Greg Bahnsen, The Grace of Law

31 “He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’ ” (Luke 16:29)  This is from the parable of the rich man and Lazarus.  The rich man was in hell and wanted to warn his brothers about their fate if they did not have faith in Christ’s salvation and obedience to his ways in the law.

Lamb Fajitas with Organic Basmati Rice

This simple dish is one of our favorites.  We buy Amish lamb cubes and sautee them in avocado oil.  We season the meat with rosemary and garlic salt.  Then we add organic sweet onion, organic red and green bell pepper.  We serve it over the basmati rice.  This batch of rice was cooked in organic homemade chicken bone broth.  Delicious!dinner 002

7 + 1 = 8 Autistic Children

I know 8 kids with autism. One decade ago I knew none. Why is this happening? Today, every part of my life is affected by this. My neighbor’s second handsome son has it, my friend from college’s youngest son has it, my husband has 3 coworkers on a school site with 50 employees that have children that have it, a boy that I tutor has a neighbor that has it, at church a boy has it and someone I tutored has it. My soul hurts for these kids. My soul hurt the first time I saw autism when I was a Sophomore at UCLA taking an Abnormal Psychology course. We watched a video about autism. I was so moved by the video that I can remember it vividly to this day. Why all the autism now? Could it be the 69 doses of 16 vaccines, the chemicals sprayed on our food and in the soil, or the chemicals in our laundry soap, cosmetics, and cleaning supplies?  I look to my Bible for answers.  This is what the Great Designer has said, ”When I break your supply of bread, ten women shall bake your bread in a single oven and shall dole out your bread again by weight, and you shall eat and not be satisfied.”  (Leviticus 26:26)  “If you walk in my statutes and observe my commandments and do them,  then I will give you your rains in their season, And you shall eat your bread to the full and dwell in your land securely.  I will give peace in the land,”  (Leviticus 26:3-5)  “Those who hate you shall rule over you,” (Leviticus 26:17)  “Therefore He saith: “Awake, thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.”  (Ephesians 5:14)  Dear Lord, give us ears to hear you.

The Graciousness of the Torah

“When Israel was a child, I loved him,
and out of Egypt I called my son.
The more they were called,
    the more they went away;
they kept sacrificing to the Baals
    and burning offerings to idols.”
Hosea 11:1 ESV
In the New Testament and under the New Covenant, “Israel” has become the church.  The Israelites that were saved by God’s grace in the Old Testament had faith in Christ. ” And the LORD said to Moses, “Make a fiery serpent and set it on a pole, and everyone who is bitten, when he sees it, shall live.”  (Numbers 21:8, John 3:14)
The whole Bible is one story about God’s mercy and grace to His chosen people from Genesis (when the Lord was merciful to Adam and Eve in the garden) to Revelation (which means to “reveal”).  It is a story that “reveals” more of His plan for salvation throughput history ending in 70 A.D., when Jerusalem fell, the temple sacrifices ceased and the “fullness of the age” arrived for the church.  We are living in the church age now as we have the full revelation of Scripture and waiting for the consummation of history when Jesus Christ returns.
31 “He put another parable before them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his field. 32 It is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown it is larger than all the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.”  (Matt. 13:31-32)
God’s kingdom continues to grow in all the nations.  Jesus is ruling and has been victorious.  He is the already victorious King of Kings.  There have never been more Christians on earth as today.  He will come again at the end of the church age in victory when most of the world is Christian.  “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven”  (Matthew 6:10)
“And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul,”  (Deuteronomy 10:12)
All of the Scriptures apply to the church today.  Grace applies to us in the sense that God saves his people through faith in His son Jesus Christ.  This was true of the Old Testament believers as well as the New.  We have the fullness of the times, however.  The believers in the Old Testament, were waiting for Christ.  We have seen the glory of His salvation.  Christ did not come to abolish the law.
“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. 19 Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”  (Matthew 5:17-20)  The Scribes and Pharisees lacked “faith” in Christ and did not worship Jesus, the Messiah, in Spirit and truth.  They had the law, but it was their own autonomous law.  They made things up and did not obey God’s law of loving him and their neighbor.  They were tyrants!
The modern church has turned God’s grace into disgrace.  “God’s grace doesn’t mean that we should have injustice rampant because we have the gospel.” (Apologia Radio)  “How many times does a man turn his head and pretend he doesn’t see.”  (Bob Dylan, Dust in the Wind)
God’s law needs to be taken in context and pay attention to the details.  His law is not burdensome or unjust, but promises safety and protection if obeyed through faith in Christ.  We walk down the path of righteousness by the power of the Spirit.  When we stumble….we repent….ask for forgiveness and strength to obey by the power of the Spirit, and continue down the road of righteousness seeking first His kingdom.
“for the righteous falls seven times and rises again, but the wicked stumble in times of calamity.”  (Proverbs 24:16)
“30 What shall we say, then? That Gentiles who did not pursue righteousness have attained it, that is, a righteousness that is by faith; 31 but that Israel who pursued a law that would lead to righteousness[d] did not succeed in reaching that law. 32 Why? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as if it were based on works. They have stumbled over the stumbling stone, 33 as it is written,

“Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense;

and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.”  Romans 9:30-33
The Jews missed it because they made up their own laws and threw out God’s laws because they did not have faith.  The gospel went out to the Gentiles.  “For no one is a Jew who is merely one outwardly, nor is circumcision outward and physical.
But a Jew is one inwardly, and circumcision is a matter of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter. His praise is not from man but from God.”  (Romans 2:28-29)  The New Testament, a lot of it, is writing to us, Gentiles because the stone in Zion became an offense.  They wanted autonomy instead of seeking first God’s kingdom by faith in Jesus Christ.
When you don’t approach the Torah (God’s law by faith) you stumble because it is by their own righteousness.  Christ is the goal of the law.  The law is designed by God’s grace and mercy to give us an abundant life (John 10:10).  The law doesn’t give life–it is faith in Christ that gives life, but obedience to the law is perfectly expected.  In Exodus 19, the Israelites understood God’s grace by responding, “All that the LORD has spoken we will do.”  (Exodus 19:8)
The law was given as a blessing to God’s people.  Never did God say to his people, “Do these things and you will be worthy of me.” (Bahnsen)  God is gracious and merciful.  He knows we are sinners and would have ended it in the garden if he wanted to.  The Torah (law) are God’s instructions for the way to an abundant life.  He wants you to enjoy Him and live abundantly blessed.  God is not a tyrant, but tyranny results from man’s autonomy from His law.  All the words revealed in His Torah (law) are to be taught.  Otherwise, we have a society that collapses from chaos and disorder.
I hope this helps your understanding of God’s grace in the law.

Struggling with God’s Grace

Dear friend,

God is good and He is holding you close to him.  He will get you through your struggle one day, one moment at a time.  Trust Him.

“I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5)

Jesus is the bread of life.
“‘Man shall not live by bread alone,
but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”(Matthew 4:3)

“Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good!
Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!”  (Psalm 34:8  ESV)

By His grace, he has given you the tree of life to eat from.  A wise woman told me years ago to order my life according to His word through faith in Christ.  We all will fail and have failed.  None of us are perfect.  Only one is perfect–your precious Saviour who lived a holy life for you so that you can enjoy him and live abundantly.

” But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”  (Matthew 6:33 ESV)

We will all “fall down” while seeking Him.  It doesn’t mean we have fallen away.  No, it brings us closer to Christ and the cross and causes us to say THANK YOU JESUS!

“for though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again, but the wicked stumble when calamity strikes.” (Proverbs 24:16)

We all will fall down (sin) during our day.  The difference for Christians is Christ.  We get up again, repent, ask for the Holy Spirit’s help to live right, and thank Jesus.  If we sin again, we go through the process all over again.  You are free from the bondage of fear of punishment and liberated to live in Christ (Leviticus 25:10, Luke 4:18-19))–joyfully, lovingly, peacefully….

You are precious!

The Simplest Salad Dressing Ever

While attending a UCLA homecoming game recently, my fellow classmates and I enjoyed a Chancellor’s luncheon prior to the event.  There were lots of really great meal selections!  There was a huge bowl of fresh salad among the various meal choices.  Next to the salad bar were two bottles:  olive oil and balsamic vinegar.  A simple salad dressing solution without the mess!  Since attending that event, I rarely make homemade dressing like ranch any more.  We keep it simple by having these two bottles of extra virgin organic olive oil and balsamic vinegar on hand.  The two make a great and simple dressing together.  Our meals are often accompanied by a fresh garden salad, so we often dip our sandwiches or pizza in the remaining dressing on our plates.  Yummy!dinner 007

Anchored in Love: Hope

Everyone desires to live in peace and to have joy.  Just as there are laws in nature, for example gravity, the Creator has given us laws for living.  The problem started with the first man, Adam.  He wanted to be a god and decided to make his own laws (autonomy). All teachers understand that classrooms need rules in order to have a peaceful and joyful day.  This is known as good management skills.  Rules like respect for others and kind talk would be displayed on our wall.  The students would discuss why rules were good and what our days would look like if there was anarchy, (no rules).  Anarchy does not bring peace.  Anarchy against God does not bring peace.  True peace comes from Jesus Christ who takes his people behind the veil.  All people will experience pain and disappointment in this world.  Friends and family will betray them, they will be lied to, sickness may afflict them, someone we love will die.  There is a way to rise above the problems of this world.  It is by ordering our lives according to Jesus’ words in the Bible. People, families, churches, and governments that do this and prioritize their desires according to the design for life in the Bible will have peace and joy.  Instead of our way—do it God’s way.  This is not “postage stamp Christianity”—a little bit of obedience to his word here and there.  It is all of life—every part of it.  It involves rethinking, reordering, and rebuilding according to the blueprint for life that God has designed for his creation.

“This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary.”  Hebrews 6:19 NLT
