St. Valentine gave his life out of love for Jesus Christ. He was martyred by the emperor of Rome in 269. The world would be a much better place if we loved courageously with truthfulness. Imagine politicians being truthful and courageous! May we all take a step toward being brave and honest seeking to be loving to one another since God is the originator of love. He has defined it for you here:
“4 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant 5 or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;[b] 6 it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. 7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.8 Love never ends.
13 So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-8;13 E.S.V.
This kind of love involves perfection and only God is perfect. Things on earth are crooked. We all know it.
“15 What is crooked cannot be made straight,
and what is lacking cannot be counted.” Ecclesiastes 1:15
Yet, we are blessed in our imperfections. We have the ability, in small ways, to love one another. Since joy comes from giving, may we all give a little love through kind actions on Valentine’s Day.
